Senator Urges San Diego for More Fire Support (11.28.07)
SAN DIEGO, CA -- According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Sen. Diane Feinstein urged city and county leaders to do a better job preparing for firestorms, like the ones that raged last month. Feinstein chaired a public hearing yesterday at San Diego City Hall to discuss the matter.

Feinstein opened the meeting with a criticism, saying that the city doesn’t have enough firefighters or fire stations. She said that San Diego County is one of the largest in the state without a unified fire department.

Especially troubling to Feinstein was discovering that the fire station in Rancho Bernardo is responsible for protecting 24 square miles. The National Fire Protection Association says that a station shouldn’t cover an area larger than 9 square miles. All of the 365 homes burned within San Diego city limits last month were in Rancho Bernardo.

Lack of sufficient funding has proven to be the biggest challenge. City Council President Scott Peters pointed out that voters have twice refused to pay for more fire protection. Feinstein suggested that giving voters another chance, in light of the recent fires, may prove successful. She hopes that “The third time might be the charm.”

The Firehouse American Eatery Helps "Fill the Boot" (11.16.07)
SAN DIEGO, CA -- The devastating fires that raged through Southern California this year were some of the worst on record. San Diego County was hit especially hard, with the largest evacuation in the history of the area, and nearly 300,000 acres of land burned

Thanks to an overwhelming response from the firefighting community, the county suffered minimal loss of life and property. Unfortunately, seven local firefighters lost their own homes to the blaze while fighting to keep others’ safe.

On November 13, The Firehouse American Eatery and Lounge in Pacific Beach hosted a “Fill the Boot” charity event to benefit The Fire Fighter Relief Fund. A free buffet, live entertainment, and raffle with over $1,000 in prizes were some of the main attractions. Many sponsors pitched in to make this event a success, including The Firehouse Brewing Company. All the proceeds went directly to help the firefighters rebuild their homes. Several hundred people came out to show their support, generously raising $6,731.

Firehouse Teams Up With Semi-Pro Soccer Team S.D. Pumitas (05.03.07)
SAN DIEGO, CA --The Firehouse Brewing Company has recently ventured outside of its realm to take the opportunity to help push and promote the importance of staying active through sport in the San Diego soccer community. In the absence of a professional MLS or even A-League soccer team here in San Diego, a local third division semi professional soccer team has arisen in hopes of filling that void here in our home city. Doing our part as now an official sponsor of The San Diego Pumitas soccer club, we hope to help build awareness and excitement for an aspiring San Diego professional soccer team.

The San Diego Pumitas are now entering their third season in the Southwest Division of the National Premier Soccer League. Coming out of their best season last year-finishing third in their division and winning national tournaments-they hope to out do their previous season by claiming this year’s title. Help support your San Diego professional soccer team and their hopes of moving up into the A-League merely one step away from Major League Soccer.

You can catch San Diego Pumitas home games at Balboa Stadium right off of the 5 freeway. Even if you are not a fan of soccer come out to enjoy the fun! This season prior to games you can enjoy food, drinks, and music right outside the stadium.
